Ethical and Responsible Company
We aim to establish ourselves as a leader in ethical and responsible business practices. At its core, this means doing the right thing — in how we conduct business, promote the right behaviors among our employees, treat our workforce fairly, and set appropriate expectations for our business partners. A New Global Standard for the Workforce
Volvo Cars’ Family Bond Policy – Equal Parental Leave for All Worldwide.
Volvo Cars’ Family Bond Policy – Equal Parental Leave for All Worldwide.
Volvo Cars’ Family Bond program is our paid parental leave policy for parents of all genders around the world. Under this policy, all Volvo Cars employees with at least one year of service are entitled by default to 24 weeks of parental leave at 80% of their base pay.
This global policy, which applies to either parent, is inclusive of a wide range of family structures — including adoptive parents, foster families, surrogate parents, and non-birth parents in same-sex couples.

Diversity
We are a global company, and that is reflected in our workforce. We sell vehicles in over 100 countries and strive to incorporate a wide range of ideas, experiences, personalities, and backgrounds into our strategies.
Our industry is evolving rapidly. Our business and sustainability goals are ambitious. To ensure long-term success, it is essential not only to remain open-minded but also to build inclusive teams made up of diverse individuals who can make more informed decisions.

50/50 Gender Balance
We are committed not only to building a diverse workforce, but also to fostering an inclusive culture — one where our leaders empower employees to perform at their best.
We are making every effort to advance gender diversity within our company. This aligns with our goal of achieving a 50/50 gender balance and making progress toward gender parity in leadership positions.
Ethical Sourcing
We are serious about reducing our impact on the planet and recognize that our responsibilities go beyond our office walls. Measuring our impact involves considering three key aspects of our sourcing activities: what we source, how we source it, and where we source it from.
We prioritize transparency and traceability throughout our sourcing process. For example, we use blockchain technology as part of our commitment to responsible battery sourcing.

Ethical Batteries
We are committed to sourcing the components of our batteries responsibly. As part of this commitment, we are the first car manufacturer to use blockchain technology across our entire cobalt supply chain, allowing us to monitor and trace the cobalt used in our batteries.

Responsible Cobalt Sourcing
Cobalt is a key component in the production of electric vehicle batteries. In some cases, cobalt mining can have implications for human rights.
We use blockchain technology to enhance transparency and traceability within our cobalt supply chain. This technology ensures that no information about the material’s origin can be altered without detection. We also rely on several other processes in collaboration with our suppliers — such as mine site inspections and GPS tracking — to ensure the cobalt used in our batteries comes from responsible sources.
Ethical Leadership
In 2019, Volvo Cars was recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for the third consecutive year. The Ethisphere Institute is a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices. Our participation in the Ethisphere Institute’s survey was part of our ongoing improvement initiatives.
This award recognizes our comprehensive ethics and compliance program, which is designed to ensure that our employees and business partners act responsibly and ethically. Volvo Cars is committed to fostering a culture of ethical leadership.

"Being a responsible company is an integral part of our culture and how we conduct business."
— Maria Hemberg, Head of Group Legal and Corporate Governance
Information Channel
Our ethics and compliance program is a tool that promotes responsible business practices. It serves as a guide to help us not only prevent and detect misconduct but also mitigate legal and ethical risks — particularly in relation to corruption, competition law, data protection, trade sanctions, and export controls. Our confidential and secure whistleblowing line, Tell Us, enables employees to report any suspected violations of our Code of Conduct.

Sustainable Financing
The financial community plays a key role in accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. We aim to support the growing interest in sustainable investment. Our Green Financing Framework aligns with our sustainability strategy, offering financing opportunities that have a positive impact on our shared environment and society. The framework is aligned with the ICMA Green Bond Principles and the LMA Green Loan Principles.
We use the proceeds to fund strategic projects in the field of green mobility: expanding our capacity for fully electric vehicle production and battery assembly; investing in Polestar to advance electrification; and conducting research and development for zero-emission vehicles, new electric powertrains, and automotive platform technology.
Policy Influence
At Volvo Cars, we actively support the development of policies across a wide range of areas, including those aimed at accelerating the transition to zero-emission vehicles. We actively promote momentum for change in areas such as the development of charging infrastructure, availability of renewable energy, payment standardization, charging interface standardization, research support, incentives and taxation, as well as overall levels of ambition.
